Life Transitions Counselor for Women in Leesburg, VA

Hello

I'm Hilary Stowers, a holistic mental health counselor in Leesburg, VA. I help women who are going through midlife changes like grief, trauma, and chronic illness feel seen, heard, and understood. My approach to mental health is holistic and takes into account how your mental, emotional, and physical health are connected.
Together, we can create a life that matches your current needs and priorities.

I Know What It’s Like to Fight to Be Heard

What do you want?

It’s a simple question. But if you’ve spent years caring for parents and children, dealing with difficult relationships, or managing a health condition, you may struggle to answer it.

Years ago, I was suffering with my health, and I couldn't get one single doctor to believe me. I kept running into specialists who gaslighted me or dismissed my concerns. Then one day I reached a breaking point and asked myself: "What do you want?"

My answer was simple: “I want to reclaim my health”. I was so sick and desperate and wanted my health, life, and body back.

Reflecting on this question led me to a couple of specialists who actually listened to me and ran the right tests. We learned I had Lyme disease and tested off the charts.

I’m sharing this because I know what it feels like to be dismissed and to have to advocate for yourself even when you just want to curl into a ball and not get out of bed.

And it’s why, when I meet with clients, I often start with this question: "What do you want?"

You might not know the answer right away. When you've spent years putting everyone else first, it can take time to reconnect with your own needs. And that’s exactly what I’m here to support you with. You don't have to figure it out alone.

When Everyone Else Comes First, It’s Easy to Lose Yourself

You show up for your children, help your aging parents, support your partner, and keep things running. But what about your needs?
Maybe you’re silently dealing with the grief that comes from watching a loved one decline.

Or perhaps you’re recovering from a breakup and trying to figure out who you are after years of putting others first.

You know something has to change, but prioritizing yourself makes you feel guilty. You worry that you’re being selfish, letting people down, or just asking for too much. If this sounds familiar, you’re in the right place.

Your Needs Matter Too!

You deserve to have a voice in your own life. Together, we can explore the patterns that have kept you putting yourself last, work on setting and maintaining healthy boundaries, and help you reconnect with what you want for yourself.

What It's Like to
Work With Me

As a holistic mental health counselor, I look at the bigger picture of your well-being. I bring together my clinical training, nutrition background, and personal experience to support you in becoming the most empowered version of yourself. I call this process reclamation, calling back all the parts of yourself that got lost or buried along the way.

Because everyone is different, I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches to create a treatment plan that fits your needs and goals.
And sometimes, support extends beyond therapy. When needed, I can connect you with trusted professionals in my network who offer additional resources to support your well-being

A Few More Things About Me

Outside of my work as a therapist, I've been a spin instructor since 2007. Movement has been a part of my life for years, and it is deeply linked to my passion for connecting physical and mental well-being.

I've also dealt with my own health challenges, including Lyme disease, lipedema, and perimenopause. These experiences are at the heart of how I support clients. I call my approach SHU: it recognizes the need for feeling Seen, Heard, and Understood.

I believe in self-advocacy. And it's one of the reasons I'm so passionate about helping women reconnect with themselves, recognize their needs, and feel empowered to speak up about what matters to them.
